About South Burlington Vermont

South Burlington surrounds the eastern and southern sides of Burlington. It is a very active community and was named “Vermont’s #1 sports town” by Sports Illustrated in 2003. The mountains are just a drive away and Lake Champlain is accessible in the neighboring town of Burlington.

Recreation

South Burlington has 8 parks for residents and visitors to use. Dorset Park is the biggest park; it is a 210 acre park that is split into two sections. One section has soccer fields, tennis courts, baseball fields, and an indoor ice arena. The other section is wooded area for cross-country skiing, nature walks, and exercising trails. Dorset Park provides residents with recreational activities year-round.

South Burlington’s recreation department organizes different activities throughout the year. A variety of summer camps are available for all ages; they offer day camps, sports camps and specialty camps. The town also organizes adult and senior programs. In the summer they offer golf and tennis lessons, kayak clinics, scuba clinics, trek and tone clinics and woodworking clinics. A senior citizens club gathers for activities such as bingo, guest speakers, trips and monthly potlucks.

With two main highways running through South Burlington, the city attracts many commercial, hospitality and retail businesses. South Burlington is home to award-winning hotels and restaurants, as well as Higher Ground – a music venue offering live performances year round.
