About Shelburne Vermont Shelburne is a beautiful New England town on Lake Champlain. Lush valleys, views of the Green Mountains and well kept farms surrounding the center of town are why people cherish Shelburne. The small town is located only a few minutes south of Burlington; it is a well rounded place that has something for everyone. Recreation A popular attraction is the Shelburne Museum. It offers one of America’s most extensive and diverse collections of folk, fine and decorative arts. There are 39 historic buildings and galleries at the museum, each with a different collection of historic artifacts on display. The interior of the historic houses range from the rugged Vermont settlement era of the 1790’s to the post war economic boom years of the 1950’s. The museum also exhibits an array of 19th century items, from tools, to stagecoaches and horse drawn carriages.
Shelburne Farms and The Inn at Shelburne Farms are also very popular with locals and tourists. They are National historic landmarks that feature nonprofit environmental education seminars, walking trails, historic buildings and formal gardens. Shelburne Farms produces fresh handmade Vermont Cheese from Brown Swiss Cows that are raised on the farm.
Shelburne also has orchards and a vineyard that add beauty and fun to the town. Shelburne Vineyard was established in 1998; it produces fine wines from organic certified grapes. The vineyard has 3 types of white grapes for white wines and one red grape, Zweigelt, which was a 2005 gold medal winner.
Shelburne Bay Park is located on Lake Champlain. It offers 1.5 miles of gravel path for biking, walking or running. The Shelburne Marina, close to the park, offers boat storage and water access for patrons. The town hosts many events for locals and tourists throughout the year. The Vermont Mozart Festival is held at Shelburne Farms every summer.
The recreation program organizes programs for children, adults and seniors; such as men’s basketball and coed beach volleyball and table tennis for ages 16-99. All of the programs are free for residents and open to the public for a small fee. The town also offers a variety of summer camps for all ages. Business Shelburne is a great place for a business to locate. Being close to Burlington, a lot of people pass through the town. Volvo, Climb High, and other well known businesses are located in Shelburne. The Magic Hat Brewery is located off of Route 7 in Shelburne. What you can’t find in town you can find in Burlington, so the town of Shelburne tends to fulfill everyone’s needs.
